Eric Carr (Born Paul Caravello)
July 12, 1950 – November 24, 1991

Eric Carr was a multi-instrumentalist, but primarily a drummer who goes down in rock ‘n roll history as the first replacement for Peter Criss in Kiss.   Upon Criss’ official departure from Kiss in 1980, the band held auditions for a replacement.  Although he submitted is application a day after the deadline and was the very last to try-out, Carr was selected to continue on with the band under the guise of “The Fox.”  Over the course of his career with Kiss, Carr played on such albums as Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up, Animalyze, and Asylum.  Carr also sang lead on a handful of songs during Kiss live shows, as well as on a re-recording of “Beth” which had originally sung by Criss.  On November 21, 1991, Eric Carr, age 41, died of a brain hemorrhage that resulted from heart cancer which he had been suffering from for some time.

Lick It Up - KISS

  1. Nice KISS tribute for E.C.

I was a lifelong KISS fan and after the “disco years” and solo albums basically wrote them off. The only thing that saved them I think was a swift kick in the ass and some much-needed energy behind the kit!

Being a drummer of course I jammed on “Creatures of the Night” with ONE OF THE HEAVIEST/LARGEST drums sounds ever laid to tape – “I Love it Loud”! Also the fine double-bass footwork on the title track was a nice injected metal energy jolt for Paul + Gene as well!

“Lick it Up” was a great album and that tour rocked the house.Gene’s bass sent me packin’ to the seats as I could not stand the pounding in my chest as it was (LITERALLY) taking my breathe away and I have never experienced that prior or ever since!

I wasn’t too much into Animalyze, and Asylum but they had some decent material.

A lot of people do not know that Eric produced another up n’ coming band called NEW YORK. I managed to get an unreleased demo of that material and it was very good.

Here is a link to that:

*I will be posting photos and reviews of that on my DEMOLISH blog if anyone is interested:

Eric is surely missed and it’s hard to believe it’s been 18 years!

    Rock on!
