Ean Evans
September 16, 1960 – May 6, 2009
Ean Evans was most recently the bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, having joined the band in 2001, replacing Leon Wilkeson who had recently passed away. Evans started playing the guitar at 15 and in no time he was gigging around the southeast in various cover bands. He later switched to bass. In 1988 he was asked to join the Outlaws by Hughie Thomasson. Thomasson eventually folded the group to join Lynyrd Skynyrd. Wilkeson followed in 2001. He was diagnosed with cancer in late 2008 and died of the disease on May 6, 2009.
Thanks to Ed Maxin for the assist.
ian is my cousin and will be missed dearly. we knew him as wayne evans. wayne worked so hard from as far back as I remember to get where he was. He passed away doing what he dreamed of and not many of us will be able to say that at the end.
I was the lead singer in Cupid’s Arrow many years ago. I have not spoken to Ean for quite some time. I recently found Tim Cabe on facebook. I am so sorry to hear of Ean’s death. I wanted to tell Eva that she and the kids are in my thoughts and prayers as they go this difficult time. I would love to hear from you if you get a moment to express my feelings and just to see you all again. Ean’s giftof music will be truly missed by everyone.
this really crushes me! im from jacksonville fl and i grew up listening to skynyrd practice all the time. im 44 years old now and my grown kids listen to skynyrd themselves because its the greatest rock n roll ever recorded! my children cut their teeth to skynyrd , and i would’nt have it any other way! the westside will continue to be the bestside!
Just found out about Eans passing.
Very sad to hear, I jammed with Ean in so. Atl. back in the seventies. We never played together but that one time but always supported each others
bands when we could.
We used to run into each other at Charlie McGruders when he played with Baby Blue, I last saw him in CA. when he played with the Outlaws years ago.
Once he joined up with Skynard I thought man this is where he belongs, I was so happy for his success.
I don’t think I ever saw a frown on that guys face, he was always smiling and never seemed down about anything!
You will be missed Ean… Peace Brother!
