Randall Bewley
July 25, 1955 – February 25, 2009

randall-bewleyRandall Bewley was the lead guitarist for Athens, Georgia alternative rock band, Pylon.  Formed in 1979, Pylon were one of the fabled college town music scene’s most popular bands of their time.  Even local musical icons the B-52s and R.E.M. championed Pylon whenever they could.  Over the course of their career, Pylon released three albums along with an ep and a few singles. All of which became a fixture on college radio,  and were part of the blueprint from which today’s indie rock was built.  On February 23, 2009, Randall Bewley suffered a heart attack while driving near his home.  The resulting accident put him in a coma.  Two days later, he was taken off life support and passed away.  He was 53 when he died.

Thanks to Stephen Brower for the assist.

  1. I am so very sorry for your loss. As you may or may not know, I lost my husband, and the blues/music community, lost Mark Sallings to a car accident on his way to a gig. He too died on February 25th, 2009. Heaven must have wanted them now…. there have been other losses in the blues community as well, this week. A lot of broken hearts and sorrow going around. You are all in my prayers…I know, firsthand how overwhelming the shock and grief is.. Peace and Blues, Sandra `

“A song by Pylon. I remember their version on the radio the day that Chronic Town came out and being suddenly depressed by how much better it was than our record.”
