Phelps “Catfish” Collins
1944 – August 6, 2010

Catfish Collins is best remembered as the rhythm guitarist on several influential recordings by P-Funk, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, which was lead by his brother, Bootsy Collins.  During the late ’60s, Collins and his brother, Bootsy, and Phillipe Wynne helped form a band called the Pacemakers, that was soon hired by James Brown and transformed into his legendary backup band, the J.B.’s.  Collins played on such classics as “Super Bad” and “Get Up (I Feel Like A) Sex Machine.”  The Collins brothers eventually left Brown and formed Funkadelic.  Catfish Collins was 66 when he died of cancer on August 6, 2010.

  2. One of the things that I will never forget about Catfish is that he would always say “You Never Know” meaning, just put in the work, the project may not pay a lot right now but “You Never Know” what could come out of it, could be a bigger and better opportunity down the road, things sometimes happen when you least expect them to. He always encouraged me to dream big and to always stay active with my music career, and to this day I want to thank you so much for ALWAYS being there for me. My CD Release Party was great because of you, having you in the place meant so much to me. Thank you for coming out to my gigs in town what a wonderful spirit to remember, you were always full of joy, you have inspired me to never stop until I reach the TOP!

WE LOVE & MISS YOUR SMILE CATFISH!!!
